Employment - Company Driver

Hiring Guidelines

  • Have a current Class A CDL
  • At least 23 years of age
  • No more than four jobs in the last three years
  • Pass company physical, physical assessment, and pre-employment drug test
  • Have no major preventable accidents within the past year
  • Have no more than three moving violations in the past three years
  • Have no prior DWI or DUI's in the past five years
  • Meet DOT requirements
  • Fulfill physical demands of the job

Orientation

All approved applicants attend a 1 1/2 day orientation During orientation you will:
  • Take a road test
  • Receive a DOT physical or have proof of current physical
  • Take a physical assessment
  • Take a Pre-employment drug screen
  • Receive Classroom training
  • Have a Written Test
    Grand Island Express pays for your bus ticket to orientation. Lodging and Lunches are provided. You will also receive $1.00 per day for orientation.

Experienced Driver Pay

New Speed Based Pay (effective 8-3-08)

    *Drivers will receive a review once per calendar quarter if at or below $.32 cpm. To qualify for increases driver must maintain above average MPG, have no late deliveries and no reportable accidents.

    **Drivers not at max pay rate will receive a review every 6 months. To qualify for increases drivers must maintain above average MPG, have no late deliveries and no reportable accidents.

    Mileage pay includes counting and securing your load and other assistance to customer.

    Drop Pay

    • First pickup and stop-off are free
    • Second pickup or stop-off is $15
    • Each additional pickup or stop-off is $30

    Student/Trainee Pay

    • Trainees will attend two days of orientation followed by 4 to 6 weeks of over the road training. Trainees will be paid $350 per week during over the road training.
    • Students may qualify for tuition reimbursement.

    Company Driver Benefit Package

    Health Insurance

    Provided by Blue Cross / Blue Shield
    • Family Premiums $101.49/week
    • Single premiums $32.29/week
    • Deductible is $500/$1000
    • Coverage is 80/20 within the PPO & $20 co-pay
    • Prescription card = $10/$30/$60

    Dental and Eyeglass Coverage

    • Premiums based on who will be covered and their ages
    • Eyeglass discount card available with dental insurance coverage

    Paid Vacation

    Drivers are eligible for one week paid vacation after one year of employment, and will earn one additional vacation day for each year of service there after.
    • 1 year - 7 days
    • 2 years - 8 days
    • 3 years - 9 days
    • 4 years - 10 days
    • 5 years - 11 days etc

    401k/Profit Sharing

    • Associates are eligible after one year of service.
    • GIX will contribute 10% of its net profits into the plan each year. Associates may add additional money to their retirement accounts by deferring a portion of their income to the plan.
